Get To Know: Jamel Shabazz

Miss Rosen, writing in Blind-Magazine, recalls Jamel Shabazz growing up in the 1960’s in Brooklyn. Her essay starts with his early steps in photography, and ends with an upcoming reissue of the 2005 Life Before Crack. In just a few words, she covers and incredible amount of territory and the societal changes that went along with the times.

The essay also provides several classic images, worthy of your time by themselves. And to think none of this may have happened had a young Jamel never encountered the book, Black in White America: 1963-1965 by Leonard Freed! Click here to read the article.
