Get To Know: Fariba Alam

Currently working from Brooklyn, New York, Fariba Salma Alam is a visual artist of Bangladeshi descent. She received a Fulbright Scholarship and has earned a MA in Studio Art. Her photographs, mixed media works, and installation have exhibited mostly on the east coast. She does volunteer work for South Asian Women and the Acid Survivor’s Foundation in Bangladesh, and is a founding board member of South Asian Woman’s Creative Collective (SAWCC). Her works deal with limitations imposed on the female body, displacement and loss, religious and secular allegories, and the Islamic/minimalist techniques of repetition.
