Tips for uploading your images to the PPF website

As a PPF member, you have several opportunities to show your work on our website.
The Members directory is ready to accept your headshot. People who click through to your personal page can see a few samples of your work, plus your contact information.
The New Work Gallery accepts a few submissions now and then, and is not juried. It’s up to you what you want to show.
The News and Events pages have small spaces to illustrate the announcements.
The website itself has several places for decorative banners and slideshows. The Home page slideshow, for example, is intended to bedazzle new visitors and invite them inside for a closer look. These images need to meet specific style, quality, and size requirements.

Lately, we have been calling for members who are headshot-free to send in a self-portrait. A grid of members doesn’t look very good with lots of blanks in it. A few of the first ones to come in have been very small—on the order of 200x300 pixels.
There are over 7,000 different sizes of screens used to view web pages in the world. In an attempt to make the PPF page look good on most of these, our web software will adjust the size and placement of everything on the page to best fit the visiting screen. To accomplish this task, it makes seven copies of every image sent in, and sometimes enlarges/reduces/crops those on the fly.
For most images, including headshots in the Members directory, 2000px on the long side is about right. It is better to reduce a larger picture to 2000px than to up-size a smaller photo. Be sure to allow plenty of space on all sides—especially above the top of the head—to give the web app some room within which to work. Send in .jpg files in the sRGB color space.
For the home screen, we want to show off our work in the best possible light. We are currently working on standards for those and will announce the requirements soon.
