Staggering Increase in Covid Infections Forces New Restrictions
Responding to a large spike in the number of Oregonians sickened by Covid-19, the Governor and health care officials urged citizens to be much more careful. The new restrictions include:
business should mandate work-from-home policy where possible
reduce indoor restaurant capacity to 50 people (includes staff and customers)
encourage outdoor dining and take-out
pause indoor visits to long-term care facilities
reduce maximum number of people in an indoor activity to 50
limit social gatherings to six people not in one’s current household
The standards are enforceable by law, but officials prefer people to comply voluntarily.
It appears that “sporadic community spread” is the cause. This means people are getting too close together in confined spaces, not maintaining social distancing, and not wearing masks. If people continue to be casual about cancelling meetings, staying home—especially when not feeling well, wearing a mask, washing hands, and keeping a distance, the State may be forced to consider additional closures and restrictions.
