Women’s Work: A Survey Of Female Photographers

Many museums are intentionally seeking to exhibit under-recognized artists by being more inclusive. In the early days of photography, certainly there were female photographers, but the times mostly honored the works of men. The Museum of Fine Arts St. Petersburg, in Florida, hopes to do their part with a show of female photographers that runs through September 11, 2022.

The names will be familiar to Portland Photographers’ Forum members: Julia Margaret Cameron, Gertrude Käsebier , Margaret Bourke-White , Diane Arbus , Sally Mann, Imogen Cunningham, and other less-well known. If you cannot get to Florida, the W Magazine webpage has a small sample of images to whet your appetite.
