Portland’s Christmas Ships Fleet Offers VERY Socially-Distanced Photo Opportunities
One holiday event that will carry on in 2020 is the Christmas Ships parade. Up to 60 boat captains annually decorate their vessels with holiday lights and cruise along the Willamette and the Columbia rivers. Stay six feet away? Ha! That ship is halfway across the river! (But be careful of your position relative to other spectators on the shore, and wear your mask with nose tucked under the fabric!)
Getting a great image is tricky due to the distance and low levels of lighting, but this is a challenge to re-ignite your creative thinking. Weather and hazards in the water are about the only reasons these hearty sailors will stay docked.
Check the schedule here. The first parade is Friday, December 4, 2020.
