Mining Engineer Or Pictorialist Photographer - Léonard Misonne’s Choice

Leonard Misonne (1870-1943) studied mining engineering at one point, but the record is unclear whether he actually worked in that field. Perhaps it was his engineering training that told him that the light was more important than the subject matter when it came to photography? No matter, he went off across Belgium and parts of Europe in search of foggy days, strong backlighting and scenes of everyday people and landscapes. This website has a nice selection of his work.
