Get To Know: Berenice Abbott

Berenice Abbott was born in Ohio in 1898 and almost reached her 100th birthday. You might be familiar with her photos documenting New York City in the 1930s and her efforts to preserve the works of Eugene Atget. She studied art in Berlin and was Man Ray’s darkroom assistant before opening her own studio in Paris. Back in the USA, she worked on the Federal Arts Project of the Works Progress Administration. Later, she served 15 years on the Board of the Photo League and also taught at the New School For Social Research. For more information, click here.
