Get To Know Sergei Stroitelev

According to a recent feature story in the British Journal of Photography, women who contract breast cancer in Russia can face societal scorn and rejection in addition to a marathon of uncomfortable treatments. A chance meeting with an oncologist caused Saint-Petersburg, Russia, photographer, Sergei Stroitelev, to make tender portraits that show the beauty of these women.

The artist mentioned that he could not have made these images earlier in his career because he did not deeply understand the importance of building trust in portraiture. Stroitelev has worked with National Geographic Russia, VICE UK, and others, and tends to make images highlighting current issues.
