Get To Know: Quicksand

There were recent reports in the news of hikers needing to be rescued from quicksand. One hiker spent 11 hours about waist-deep in quicksand in the Bull Valley Gorge area of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Curiously enough, quicksand is possible in many picturesque locations, particularly after a heavy rain. If all you know about quicksand is what you learned from Saturday morning cartoon shows, you should probably read this before venturing out with a heavy backpack of photo gear!
