Deadline: Sunday, April 4
Theme: "Diaspora Studies"

Diaspora describes scattered populations whose origins lie in separate geographies, dispersed from their indigenous territories. Historically, and to this day, it frames both the Jewish people fleeing persecution throughout Europe and beyond, and people of African descent who were traumatically displaced by the trans-Atlantic slave trade. It also extends to Palestinians in 1948 and 1967, Native Americans, Tutsi Rwandans fleeing genocide, Armenians, Rohingyas in Myanmar, and countless other peoples.

Diaspora can also take on a wider meaning, pointing to the myriad ways dispersal causes cultural shifts, how people maintain heritage, joy, and tradition in spite of scattering and trauma, and the complexity of identifying with a “homeland” while living outside of it. For this open call, we'd like to see work that responds to these many meanings and experiences.
