Art Basel Miami 2022 Has Strong NFT Presence

Art Basel is an international gathering of galleries and artists that alternates between exhibition spaces in Switzerland and Miami. This year, the Miami event is expected to attract participants from over 70 countries/territories. Attendance could reach 81,000.

Generative art has a strong presence this year. What is generative art? According to Ben Munster writing for the DeCrypt website, Max Bense-a philosopher-initially proposed the concept of artist/engineers collaborating with an algorythm to produce an image that has human concepts and specifications, but the final processing is done by machine. Today’s art is “minted” into Non-Fungible Tokens, cryptographically unique markers that can be associated with physical or digital content that also provides proof of ownership. In 2021, the NFT market clocked in at $41 billion!

There are several debatable topics in this area, such as how much does the artist influence the process, how risky are digital assets, etc. that are expected to arise in discussion groups that you can view on YouTube.
