Get To Know: Early Photography In Egypt

Photographers flocked to Egypt shortly after the invention of the Daguerrotype. They struggled with the heat, the sand, and the remoteness. Things improved a bit with the introduction of dry plates around 1880. You can see several of the results in the University of Chicago digital collections in their Lost Egypt portfolios.
