“Inward: Reflections On Interiority” On View Until 1/10/2022

The New York International Center for Photography recently launched a new exhibition in which emerging artists attempted to portray their inner states. Since we are all coping with the pandemic, police violence, an attempted insurrection, etc. it seemed to make sense to ask for retrospective submissions. One additional rule—only iPhone images were accepted.

IIsolde Brielmaier, PhD, the curator-at-large for ICP organized the exhibition. Intimate mages by Djeneba Aduayon, Arielle Bobb-Willis, Quil Lemons, Brad Ogbonna, and Isaac West were selected. One of the perhaps unexpected side benefits of requiring iPhone capture is that it further legitimized the platform as a legitimate tool for making art, which could encourage aspiring photographers at younger ages to enter the field without first having to obtain expensive equipment.
