“Devil’s Promenade”, New Collaborative Book Project By Antone Dolezal & Lara Shipley

Near the border of Kansas, Arkansas, and Missouri is the Ozark backwoods. An ancient, remote area, it is a curious combination impoverished communities struggling to survive, old folktales, woods and rivers, a suspicion or strangers, and belief in heaven and Hell. To add to the atmosphere, there is a region prone to spontaneous illumination. Lacking a convincing scientific explanation, people say that the “spook light” is a sign that Devil lives there, down the road known as the “Devil’s Promenade.”

Over a period of ten years, photographers Antone Dolezal and Lara Shiply combined their images with oral histories, pieces of fiction, and found images to create a three-book series that included the Devil’s Promenade. The series is published by Overlapse.
