Dr. Carla Hayden
The 14th Librarian of Congress earned a B. A. from Roosevelt University, and then the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the Graduate Library School of the University of Chicago. She was the first African American to become the Library Journal’s Librarian of the Year. She began working with the Chicago Public Library, then went up the ladder serving several increasingly difficult posts. In 2016, then President Barack Obama nominated her to be the first female and the first African American to lead our national library. She was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on 7/13/2016
