Get To Know: Carolyn Drake

Fresh out of college with a Fulbright Fellowship in 2006, Carolyn Drake developed a series of images of girls at an ex-Soviet orphanage in the Ukraine. The rigid schedule of the institution placed limits on what she was hoping to achieve. Eight years later, she went back with ideas about how to engage her subjects as collaborators. For example, when showing her prints to her subjects, she gave them scissors and markers so they could cut up and reassemble the images, adding whatever colors seemed right.

You can check out a sample of her work here.
