Monthly Meeting: Members Night

Alternative Processes with PPF members Carla Christian and Paul Cunningham

Carla Christian

Carla Christian is a photo-based artist in Vancouver, Washington. Her work explores ideas about our inner geography and the spaces around us.

Carla’s practice is deeply rooted in craft, where the hand is as important as the eye. She moves fluidly between contemporary digital photography tools and alternative photographic processes, such as cyanotype, platinum palladium, carbon, lumen, film, and Polaroid, to create images with a tangible physicality and sense of place.

Carla has exhibited her work in galleries and publications including Lightbox Photographic Gallery, Black Box Gallery, Archer Gallery, Art at the Cave, Aurora Gallery, The Hand magazine, and Shots magazine. She is largely self-taught, expanding her knowledge of photography and fine art through academic courses and artist workshops.

Paul Cunningham

“Intention” defines Paul’s approach to photography. Whether capturing a postcard-like landscape or a musician’s portrait, he feels that deliberate effort results in a deeper understanding of the subject. This philosophy extends to the making of prints; the sincere desire to express a unique and poignant moment. He also finds joy in exploring processes and materials, expanding his creativity.

Paul teaches platinum palladium workshops at LightBox Photographic Gallery in Astoria, Oregon and his prints are found in collections worldwide.

This meeting is being held on Zoom.
